Community Outreach at Des Peres Hospital

Giving Back to the Community

At Des Peres Hospital, we may primarily serve patients and their families, but we also reach out to members of the wider community. We provide health and wellness seminars, events, screenings and blood drives, as well as other community activities.

Art Events

Des Peres Hospital hosts exhibits of local original art in collaboration with Art Saint Louis, the St. Louis Artists’ Guild, Foundry Art Centre and MySLArt. The first exhibit was opened in October 2012 and continues to this day with seasonal exhibitions.

The project, “Art @ Des Peres Hospital,” was developed with the guidance of the Regional Arts Commission. It brings original art by artists from the greater St. Louis area to the walls of Des Peres Hospital with the goals of enriching the patient and visitor experience and showcasing the deep pool of talent in the region.

Art @ Des Peres Hospital is organized and managed by Art Saint Louis and features artworks on multiple floors within the hospital. The exhibit includes photography, paintings and mixed media. All art is accompanied by a show tag with the title of the piece, the artist’s name and location and description of medium. Program guides help visitors take a self-guided tour.

Details are available at Art Saint Louis’ website.

Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive

Hunger has many faces. It can be a relative, coworker, neighbor or your child’s best friend.

Des Peres Hospital leads a summer community effort to provide area children and adults struggling with hunger by providing healthy breakfasts through its Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive benefiting the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank serves more than 392,700 individuals a year, 31 percent of whom are children and 14 percent of whom are seniors over 60 years old.

The program accepts whole grain, healthy cereal or other non-perishable food items.

Not sure what to buy?

The “What Healthy Cereal Looks Like” flier includes tips on what kinds of cereals to purchase.

Foodbank Virtual Drive

We’re also raising funds for the Foodbank to help them purchase perishable food items for a well-rounded breakfast.

To make a monetary donation, visit Des Peres Hospital’s virtual food drive site. The St. Louis Foodbank can provide 4 meals for every $1 dollar donated.

This drive is part of a national drive by Des Peres Hospital and our fellow Tenet facilities to support food banks in the Feeding America network. Tenet matched all funds raised June 3–10, 2016 with a grant of $100,000.
