Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit

For those who need to be admitted, our Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit is designed to meet the special needs of the older patient, with the goal of maintaining a patient’s functionality and independence.

The ACE unit treats acute medical conditions ranging from after-stroke to pain management.  It was developed in conjunction with Saint Louis University’s nationally recognized geriatrics program and community geriatricians.

The unit’s interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dieticians, therapists and others designs treatment plans to meet each patients’ physical, spiritual and social needs.   Your personalized treatment is designed and provided by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dieticians, therapists and other senior care specialists who are interested in and sensitive to the special concerns of older patients.  Treatment plans are reviewed and coordinated with your primary care physician.

Special services offered on the unit include in-room physical or occupational therapy, the opportunity for group socialization and dining.  For patients with acute delirium, 24-hour continuous observation is available.
