Des Peres Hospital’s outpatient Physical Therapy offers a wide range of treatments for the vertigo patient and for those at risk for falls. Our therapy focuses on the specific treatments that will best meet the patient’s needs and can include:
- Functional strengthening and endurance exercises
- Facilitation of postural balance strategies
- Visual compensation strategies
- Retraining proprioreceptive and kinesthetic responses
- Repositional maneuvers and habituation techniques for positional vertigo
- Ocular training to induce vestibular adaptation
- Gaze stabilization exercises
- Cervical relaxation and stretching
Each patient receives a thorough examination for the purpose of planning the appropriate course of action. Therapeutic interventions are progressed in difficulty to continue to challenge the patient and written home guidelines are provided to supplement their treatment. Progress is measured and recorded as patients are reassessed at each visit.
