This twelve-month (12 rotation) OGME-1 is designed to expose the trainee to a broad base of the osteopathic concept of total health care. The training program places a great deal of emphasis upon patient care (hospital-based and ambulatory) and direct participation in the formal educational program.
Through rotation-specific behavioral objectives, the rotations are structured to increase proficiency in technical and clinical skills and to prepare the OGME-1 for residency training.
Formal educational preparation occurs through morning report/rounds, daily noon lectures, outside speakers, residency reading clubs, OMT Club and self-directed learning activities.
The Medical Education Committee of Des Peres Hospital believes that active participation is more educationally valuable than passive participation. The interest and willingness of the intern to participate are directly related to the educational value of the Internship for the intern.
APPROVED POSITIONS: Des Peres Hospital is approved for 12 OGME-1 positions. In 2007-2008, 10 positions are funded and filled.
For 2007-2008: Linked internship/residency programs are available in Orthopedic Surgery; General Surgery; Anesthesiology; ENT, Internal Medicine and Family Practice. One traditional position will be offered.
